The driving loafers
Trends come and go, even in classic menswear. But some pieces remain perennial classics throughout the decades. Today we introduce one of these classics to the Viola Milano collection: the handmade driving loafer.
First introduced in the 1960s it quickly became popular with Italian high-society, who valued the simplicity of the shoes’ casual elegance. Like many other classics, the model gained an international following after being adopted by style icon Gianni Agnelli. Since then, it’s been a cornerstone in the Italian gentleman’s wardrobe.
They wear them for a Sunday outing in their vintage sports cars and like a comfortable pair of house shoes. Some even wear them with business suits, just like Agnelli did. Some like them in bolder suedes such as purple, red, or yellow. Other stick to classics such as chocolate, polo suede, or even black.
Our driving shoes are handmade in Marche, Italy’s shoemaking district. Here, a small family company handmakes every pair. We use the finest and most supple suede, hand-stitched for optimal comfort and a beautiful shape. If taken care of properly, they will age beautifully, and will look even better for every wear.
Whether you wear your Viola Milano driving loafers for a spin in your old Ferrari, for relaxing at home, or with your suit, is entirely up to you. We do, however, recommend you get one in every color.
