When most people think about a tie, they are most likely imagining a classic 3-fold construction. While it is the simplest construction offered in our collections, it is by no means an inferior option. Creating a beautiful tie is all about balance, and many times the light and minimalistic 3-fold is the perfect choice. For instance, it is ideal for light summer ties or for heavier fabrics that would become too hefty with other constructions.
Imagine your favourite unconstructed sport coat. It is light, comfortable and wears beautifully. It is sporty and casual, yet elegant and refined. Our untipped ties are just like that sport coat – By removing the tipping (the fabric used to line the backside of a tie) we achieve a beautiful, light drape that is ideal for a downplayed, elegant look.
Chinese legend has it that silk was first discovered by the beautiful concubine Lei Zu. She was drinking tea in a garden when some wild cocoons dropped in her bowl. As she tried to remove them, she saw the fine strings of silk that seemed to go on forever. While we cannot for certain say who discovered silk, we can trace its use back to ancient China. Via the silk route the material reached Europe where it became a luxury worthy of royalty. The lustre and delicate feel of silk make them ideal for smart outfits in any season.
